SC/ST Cell

Introduction:

The Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, is dedicated to educating all members of society without distinction and fiercely opposes any type of caste-based educational system. The college’s Governing Body decided to recreate a SC/ST/OBC cell in order to defend these ideals during a meeting that took place on March 1, 2024.

This cell’s main goal is to assist students from Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) with their unique needs and obstacles. It has been determined that the cell will be regularly reassembled in order to adjust to the changing demands of various student groups, given the dynamic nature of student needs.

Since its establishment, the SC/ST/OBC cell has been entrusted with conducting operations on campus in accordance with the UGC Policy on avoidance of caste-based discrimination in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). This indicates the college’s dedication to creating a fair and inclusive learning environment where all students, from all social backgrounds and castes, have the chance to succeed.

Objectives:

  1. Upholding reservation policies to ensure equitable representation for SCs/STs and OBCs.
  2. Implementation of a complaint register specifically for addressing issues faced by SCs/STs and OBCs.
  3. Maintenance of reservation rosters and registers to track adherence to reservation policies.
  4. Creating a safe and secure environment for all students from these communities.
  5. Offering prompt counselling services for emotional emergencies arising on campus.
