“Art is the response of man’s creative soul to the call of the Real”

Rabindranath Tagore

This quote by R.N. Tagore absolutely justifies an artist’s desire to search beyond the universal truth and the thrust to expose the truth which sometimes remained undiscovered in the familiar dimension. Tagore being an art enthusiast and art practitioner , understood the vitality of practicing art can make a person express more about his/her expressions & feelings and engages people to think and deal with multi visionary perspectives. Art doesn’t always revolve around perfection , it continues growing and developing to express feelings, emotions, thoughts and human capacities. Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta has been fatherly contributing the society the vision of art by producing so many eminent artists, designers, art practitioner and most importantly art enthusiasts since its foundation. We have had distinguished names like Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy , Ashit Kumar Halder, Hemen Majumder, Somnath Hore, Ganesh Halui, Haren Das, Geeta Bhattacharya, Samir Aich, Santan Dinda, Jogen Chowdhury, and many more in the alumni list. The ‘close to nature’ college campus is basically a creative hub, where the aesthetic & creative sense will automatically generate amongst students & practitioners. The ambience of the college premises will certainly indulge even into a random visitor that definitely helps the budding artists to stay connected within the periphery of art as long as they are inside the campus. The language of visual art is being taught here in an advanced way followed by history of art & ideas.
