Workshop & Seminar

  • Chinese ink brush painting : 28th April-6th May, 2010

A workshop sponsored by the UGC was arranged by the department of Painting - Indian style, on “Understanding Sino-Indian Ink Brush Tradition” with a seminar on the topic on 3rd May, 2010 at our Aban Gallery. Resource person: Amitava Bhattacharya, artist, visiting fellow- Ford Foundation, Central Academy of Fine Arts/ Beijing/ China, fellow of Research Project/ Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies. Speaker: Soumik Nandy Majumder, senior lecturer- History of Art/ Kala Bhavana/ Shantiniketan. Convenor: Apurba Sengupta, assistant professor (GCAC)

  • Cartoon drawing : 19 February, 2010

On 19 February, 2010, Martin Rowson, cartoonist laureate from the U.K. made a presentation at GCAC, followed by a workshop attended by 40 participants, both professional artists and students. Ms Sujata Sen, director of the British Council, eastern India, inaugurated the workshop. Convenors: Ms Radhika singh (BCL), Ms Ruby Sarda (ZICA) and Rebanta Goswami, assistant professor (GCAC).

  • Serigraphy : January, 2010

In January 2010, UGC sponsored the international Serigraphy workshop in the print-making department (GCAC) and exhibition “Serendipity” at Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Kolkata. Senior artists from Kalabhavana (Shantiniketan) and Kolkata worked together with our students and teachers. Resource person: Bill Pryde, the UK. Convenor: Praloy Chakraborty, associate professor (GCAC).

  • 3D Street painting with coloured chalk : winter 2009

A professional street painter or madonnara (USA), Tracy Lee Stum is a fine artist committed to creating spectacular modern masterpieces that transform, captivate and inspire. Best known for her 3D street paintings, also called anamorphic or pavement chalk art, she specializes in extraordinary visual solutions for applications in communications media, identity branding, and performance art based projects worldwide. Tracy worked in GCAC campus for 3 days with participating students.
