The art school was started in 1854 with modelling and engraving as the main areas of study. Later when the college was founded, the department of modelling and sculpture was established. Students in this department get the chance to discover and work upon expressions in three-dimensional space. The syllabus follows a classical academic format besides giving ample scope to the students to play with abstract shapes. They receive regular critical analysis of their works by teachers and practising sculptors, helping them to develop a clear perspective regarding how their works of art are viewed by others.
